Mangaluru: “Vote for Clean Politics”, a humble request, was written on his T Shirt, with an image of the slain Gauri Lankesh at the front and an image of Late DySP Ganapathi at the back.
Akhil K Gowda says, “People should refuse the politics which is played in the name of caste and religion and should elect good people who will work for development.”
Akhil, who hails from Sullia, completed his engineering in Electricals & Electronics, in Mysuru. He now runs an institution called Yuva, which works for rural development.
With the campaign, “Vote for Clean Politics”, he plans to pedal 3000 kilometers, across Karnataka, on his trusted cycle. His cycle displays the images of Gauri Lankesh and DySP Ganapathi, along with a written request asking people to elect the right candidate in the upcoming assembly elections. His written message also urges people who support this cause, to give a missed call to 7877778850.
His solo cycling expedition began on January 12 in the beautiful city of Mysuru. On January 15, his campaign brought him to Mangaluru city.
Akhil started the “Vote for Clean Politics” campaign as a way to motivate the people of Karnataka to chose the right candidate in the fast approaching assembly elections. He believes that the people should chose candidates who will work for real causes like education, health and rural development and keep away the political representatives who polarise the society with caste and religion based politics.
When asked about his reason for using the pictures of Gauri Lankesh and Late DySP Ganapathi in his campaign, Akhil said, “We have lost both due to the failure of the system. I have taken them as my inspiration to bring about clean politics, without hatred. There is an ideological difference within the society. These differences between the right and the left has led to widespread violence. Politics is being played on the basis of caste, religion and ideologies, which is not good for democracy.”
