Mangaluru: Yenepoya varsity has been ranked in band A (rank between 6th -25th) among private or self- financed universities, in the Atal ranking of institutions on innovation achievements released by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, had initiated ‘Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements’ (ARIIA), to systematically rank education institutions and universities primarily on innovation-related indicators. ARIIA considers all major indicators which are commonly used globally to rank most innovative education institutions/universities in the world.
ARIIA ranking has been started in the last three years to inspire Indian institutions to reorient their mindset and build ecosystems to encourage high-quality research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. It also aims at setting the direction for institutions for future development for making them globally competitive and at the forefront of innovation.
This year the Universities were ranked based on six critical indicators shown below:-
- Programs and activities on IPR, Innovation, Start-up and Entrepreneurship (7.5 weightage)
- Pre Incubation & Incubation Infrastructure & facilities to support I&E (7.5 weightage)
- Annual Budget spent on promoting and supporting I&E activities (13 weightage)
- Courses on Innovation, IPR and Entrepreneurship Development(05 weightage)
- Intellectual Property(IP), Technology Transfer and Commercialization(32 weightage)
- Successful Innovation and Start-ups & Funding Innovation & start-ups (35 weightage)
The ranks were categorized in two broad categories of publicly funded institutions and Private or self-financed Institutions
A total of 674 Institutes under different categories had participated in ARIIA Ranking 2020. Under the Private or Self-financed Universities, other than the top 5 Institutions, the Institutions have been ranked under Band A (Ranked between 6th – 25) and Band B (Ranked between 26th – 50) and Band C (Ranked above 50).
Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) has been ranked under Band A( 6th – 25th) under Private or Self-Financed Universities for the first time. Apart from Yenepoya, only 4 other Institutions from Karnataka have figured under this category (JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research, KLE Technological University, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, and REVA University).
The University has been consistently performing good in National and International rankings and has been continuously ranked within top100 in NIRF of HRD, with 86th position in 2020, and 17th position in the Global SCIMAGO Institutions Under Higher Education Sector and featured in the global Top 500 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact rankings from India.
The University has created the Ecosystem, which facilitates research and innovation. The Yenepoya Technology Incubation (YTI) and Yenepoya Research Centre (YRC) are spheres heading these initiatives in creating such an Ecosystem which has facilities for cutting edge research, Rapid Prototyping and MedTech Designing and Early Translator Accelerator (ETA).
University has been at the forefront in creating an ecosystem that facilitates Innovation. This achievement is one more testimonial of our commitment towards imparting quality education and research.
