Mangaluru: In order to create awareness about Covid-19, a team of Yakshagana artists have set up a Yakshagana Thalamaddale programme under the title “Narayanashtra- Coronasthra”. This will be screened on social media soon.

Yakshagana artist Prof Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli has written the story for this Yakshagana Thalamaddale, taking the ‘Mahabharata’ as his inspiration. Though the story relates to the ‘Mahabharatha’, it emphasises on the preventive measures to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Dr Dinakar S Pachanady has written the songs for this Yakshagana performance. Yakshagana scholar Dr M Prabhakar Joshi, Prof Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli and Tulu Academy president Dayanand Kattalsar play the lead roles. Sadashiv Alva Talapady, Vidyadhar Shetty and Prashanth C K play the supporting roles.

While Deviprasad Alva Talapady has assisted as the Bhagavatha (playback singer), Rohith Uchil and Rajesh Jeppu have assisted in ‘Chende’ and ‘Maddale’ respectively. It can be noted that these Yakshagana artistes have already set up other Yakshagana prasangas like the ‘Gunyasura Vadhe’ and ‘ Savayava Vijaya’, in order to create awareness on other subjects.

This Yakshagana Thalamaddale will be screened on the Posakural local television channel, YouTube, Facebook and other social media platforms soon.
