Mangaluru: Yakshagana teacher Ramachandra Bhat Yellur will be conferred ‘Kundeshwara Samman’ during the annual festival of the Kundeshwara Kshetra, Hirgana, Karkala Taluk on January 21.

Being an Yakshagana artist, he has been teaching Yakshagana to budding talents free of cost at his house, located behind Kadri temple. He kindled interest among children in Yakshagana in and around Kadri.

He was responsible for Kadri Bala and Mahila Mela, which have performance at the Rashtrapati Bhavan recently. Children under Ramachandra Bhat’s direction have also excelled in other performing arts including theatre, mimicry etc.

He also offered space at the house for Krishnaraja Nandalike, who trains students in Chende (Yakshagana percussive instrument), classical music, Mridanga and Bhagavathike ( Playback singing). Considering his selfless service, Kundeshwar Kshetra has selected him for the annual award.

A press release from Kundeshwara temple informed that the award will be presented to Ramachandra Bhat on January 21. The programme will also see the staging of Bhargava Vijaya Yakshagana under the leadership of Patla Sathish Shetty, besides staging of “Panodittundu” Tulu play by Shibarur Kalavidaru.
