Mangaluru: The All India Mahila Congress General Secretary Janet D’Souza on April 14, claimed that women and children were facing security challenges in BJP-ruled states.
Addressing a press meet at Congress Bhavan, Janet D’ Souza said, ” Women and children are unsafe in states ruled by BJP government. It took one year for UP government led by Yogi Adhityanath to book case and arrest the accused BJP MLA in Unnao rape incident. How can women and children feel safe in the BJP-led states? “
“In Karnataka, the Congress government has provided good administration. Hence, there were hardly any challenges with regard to safety and security of women and children in the state. Wherever there is BJP government, there are problems for women and children”, Janet alleged.
“Condemning the rising instances of rapes like in Kathua and Unnao, the Mahila Congress will hold a candle light march in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Lalbagh in the city on April 15”, she added.
She also informed that for the upcoming assembly elections, Mahila Congress had formed four zones in Karnataka viz., Mysore Zone, Gulbarga Zone, Belgaum (Maharastra-Karnataka) Zone and Bangalore Zone. She said, “Atleast 20 percent women candidates will fight the assembly elections in the state.”
To a query about the refusal of the state government to hand over the case of death of Alva’s student Kavya to the CID, despite repeated requests by the family of the girl, Janet replied that the Mahila Congress would immediately work on the issue and bring it to light. “Justice shall prevail,” she added.
