Mangaluru: “The demolition of Babri Masjid was nothing but the destruction of our Constitution. Hence, Babri Masjid should be constructed at the same place in Ayodhya and the idols which are being kept illegally should be removed from there”, said Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) State President Ilyas Mohammed Thumbay on Tuesday, December 4.

Addressing a public meeting organised by the district unit of SDPI in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office Ilyas said, “There was no Ram Mandir at Ayodhya and people from Islam community had been offering prayers at Babri Masjid from the past 644 years. However, the members of Sangh Parivar kept idols inside the premises of Babri Masjid so as to create a rumour that there was Ram Mandir prior to Babri Masjid. Hence, we will not allow the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. We are ready to lay our lives in order to construct Babri Masjid at Ayodhya”, he stressed.

Condemning the open statement of Sangh Parivar leaders that over 1 lakh Hindu people would be ready to march towards Ayodhya if attempts were made to oppose the construction of Ram Mandir, Ilyas said, “If they gather 1 lakh people, we are ready to get 25 lakh people in order to prevent the construction of Mandir in Ayodhya. We have the support of Dalits, Christians and even from Hindu community to prevent the construction of Ram Mandir and rebuild Babri Masjid”, he said.

Prior to the public meeting, a huge rally was taken out near Hampanakatta in which hundreds of SDPI members raised slogans and held placards which read ‘Babri Masjid is country’s asset and we will protect it`, ‘ Regain Babri Masjid, Regain India` among others.

SDPI DK District President of SDPI Attaullah Jokatte presided over the programme.
