Mangaluru: A water pipe burst and water gushed into nearby apartments at Lower Bendoorwell near Rose Cote apartment on Wednesday, October 10.
The locals informed that water started leaking at around 4.20 pm. After the pressure in the pipe increased, the pipe burst. The water gushed out of the broken pipe to a distance of around 30 feet, which disrupted the vehicular movement also.
It can be noted that the water pipeline was repaired at the same place a few days ago. Locals allege that the officials of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) have not taken proper care while placing water pipeline. Substandard work and low-quality pipelines must be the reason for the frequent bursting of water pipeline.
An autorickshaw driver Jayaprakash, who has parked his autorickshaw in front of the Rose Cote apartment just a few minutes before the episode took place told Newskarnataka that he was slightly shocked when his parked auto started moving.”I got off the auto only to see water gushing underneath. Immediately, I drove my vehicle to a safer place,” he said.
The basement of Rose Cote apartment was filled with water. As the incident took place people gathered to videography the same. Some say that air pressure building up inside the pipes, as water is being supplied on alternate days is the reason behind the pipes bursting.
When contacted, MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer informed that repair works have been undertaken and the problem will be rectified shortly. In spite of the emergency measures, the pipe is still leaking.
