Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district unit of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has urged for a thorough probe into the compound wall collapse incident at a construction site in Karangalpady, which led to the death of two people. They have also asked that stringent action be taken against the building owner, contractor and officials of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC).
DYFI district secretary Santhosh Bajal alleged that an illegal alliance between he MCC officials, building owners and contractors has led to the construction of illegal buildings in the city. Even though several construction labourers have dies in similar incidents in the past, no action has been taken against the violators. Hence, such incidents continue to occur. If strict action is taken against illegal constructions, then such incidents will not occur, he said.
Santhosh also urged the government to release proper compensation to the victims’ kin. “Since the breadwinners of the family died due to others’ mistakes, their family members should be compensated properly,” he stressed.
