Mangaluru: In preparation for the annual feast of Infant Jesus of Prague, a procession of votive offerings (Hore Kannike) and flag hoisting ceremony was held, wherein thousands of devotees participated on Saturday evening, January 4.
The annual fest of the Infant Jesus will be celebrated at Shrine, Carmel Hill, Bikarnakatta with religious fervour and devotion from January 14 to 16. Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao, Provincial of Carmelites of Karnataka Goa Province flagged off the procession and later presided over a formal stage programme. Rev. Fr. Dionysius Vas S. J., the Principal of St Aloysius College was the chief guest.
MLC Ivan D Souza, who is also a well-known Christian Community leader and devotee of Infant Jesus while addressing the gathering said that the popularity of shrine is increasing every year.
Fr. Dionysius in his message explained the meaning of the Incarnation of Jesus and said that Jesus being the Prince of Peace, all his devotees should become the ambassadors of peace.
Fr. Wilfred Rodrigues, Superior of St. Joseph’s Monastery welcomed the dignitaries.
Fr. Dionysius honored all those who contributed for the Hore Kannike.
Fr. Prakash D’Cunha the Shrine Pastor compered the Program. Later Fr. Dionysius blessed the flag and all the dignitaries hoisted in unison the flag of Infant Jesus and thus kicked off the celebrations.
All were invited to participate actively in the forthcoming festivities. Fr. Prakash announced the timings of the Holy Masses and said lunch will be served for all the devotees all through the Novena days.
