Bantwal: The locals of the Narikombu village have cautioned their representatives of a poll boycott by putting up a banner ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
The villagers had repeatedly requested the local MLAs and MPs to repair and concretise the Borugudde-Nayila road for the past 10 years, to no avail.
The road work in the Narikombu village started years ago and the villagers had given their agricultural land for this purpose. Part of the road and a foot-over bridge was constructed but a 2 km stretch of road was left untouched due to a political tug-of-war.
During the rainy season, the politicians would unload metal (jalli) powder and red stone on the unfinished stretch of road and the locals would volunteer to spread them on the road.
Metalling (putting gravel) of the 2 km road requires funds of around Rs 40 lakhs, which is beyond the limits of the MANREGA, says panchayat president Yashodhara Krabettu.
Aware that the election season is their only hope to get the construction of the road completed, the villagers have erected the banner, threatening a boycott of the Lok Sabha polls.
