Mangaluru: Among the total 25 theatre personalities, two well-known theatre artists of coastal region Vijaykumar Kodialbail and Bhaskar Manipal Have been selected for the prestigious annual award of Karnataka Nataka Academy for the year 2019-20.
Karnataka Nataka Academy president Prof Bhimsen Rao in a press release announced the list of 25 achievers for this award. The award comprises Rs 25,000 cash and citation. Bhimsen also informed that the date for the awarding ceremony is yet to be decided.
Vijay Kumar Kodialabil has secured much name and fame in Tulu theatre. He is known for his experiments in theatre. “Oriye Mage” is his first Tulu drama. Later, he has wrote and directed over 22 dramas like ‘Onji Nimisha’, Oriyardori Asal’, ‘Madime’, ‘Kutumba’, ‘Kode-Ini-Elle’, ‘Seetha Teacher’, ‘Ajjer’, ‘Kadalamage’, ‘Oyikla Avandinaklu’, ‘Mamugonji Mami’, ‘Akleleka Enkulatt’, ‘Mande Balipuji’, ‘Samsara Circus’, ‘Manikanta Mahime’, ‘Bhoje Budiyarage’,’Viddu’, ‘Doctra – Bhatra’, ‘Devu Poonja’,’ Appe Mookambike’, ‘ Jai Bajarangabali, ‘Shivadoothe Gulige etc. His different dramas witnessed over 22,000 shows both at the national and international level. His two Tulu movies “Oriyardori Asal’, and ‘Madime’ were loved by the audience. He tried his hands on acting with the movie Katapadi Kattappa.
Bhaskar Manipal, who is also selected for the same award is a big name in Tulu drama. He has been identified with a team “Sangama Kalavider, Manipal.” He was a cartoonist during his early days. When he was studying in college, he started to write stories for dramas. He has written over 40 dramas and did roles in over 50 dramas so far. While ‘Purandarana Punarjanma’,’ Sambashiva Prahasana’ ,’Sayuva Aata’, ‘Hasiru Nadina Kempu Haadi’ etc are his Kannada dramas, Tulu dramas such as ‘Angare’, ‘Madmal Yeraa, Madme Yeregaa’, ‘Atildaaye’ among others have fetched him name and fame. He has acted in supportive role in over 17 films. He is known for his role in a Kannada film ‘Gulabi Talkies’.
