Mangaluru: The video clipping of a Congress youth leader opposing the candidature of Mithun Rai, has gone viral. Mithun Rai filed his nomination as the coalition candidate from Mangaluru Lok Sabha constituency on Monday, March 25.
Puneeth Shetty, President of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), Mangalore South, in the video clipping has expressed his displeasure over the coalition selecting Mithun Rai as its candidate, alleging that Mithun is a goonda and that he has a connection with the underworld elements. Puneeth also alleged that Mithun has over 28 criminal cases in various police stations in Dakshina Kannada district, including the murder of Jaleel Karopady.
Puneeth has urged the Congress High Command to replace Mithun Rai with other senior Congress leaders like B Ramanath Rai, Ivan D’Souza or Vinay Kumar Sorake.
It may be noted that Mithun Rai had attacked Puneeth Shetty during a programme, organised to mark the 76th anniversary of ‘Quit India Movement’ in Town Hall, last year August. After the attack, Puneeth was admitted to a private hospital. A case was also registered against Mithun Rai and 12 others in this regard.
