Puttur: Just a month after the Shiradi Ghats were opened up for regular traffic, it has been blocked once more owing to nature’s seemingly unending fury, leaving more than 300 vehicles stranded.
The vehicles including buses, trucks and cars have been stranded in the ghats since Monday evening (August 13). The blockage was caused by the collapse of a hill near Maranahalli on Monday, August 13 following which there were several more landslides. This was, however, cleared by late Monday night, which eased the traffic a bit. Unfortunately, Tuesday morning saw several more landslides in the ghats which halted the traffic yet again.
Although a team from Ocean Construction Company cleared the spot of mud and tree debris, more landslides occurred this morning. The people who have been stranded in the ghats since Monday evening have no way to communicate with anyone due to the poor network connectivity.
