Mangaluru: Padma Shri awardee and environmentalist Salumarada Thimmakka and Ramakrishna Mission of Mangaluru was honoured with the prestigious state-level ‘Vandana Award-2019’ on Friday, April 27.
The awards ceremony was held in the Hotel Ocean Pearl auditorium in city. The awards were presented to them in recognition of their tremendous contributions in the field of environmental protection and empowerment.
Rotary District Assistant Governor Kiran Prasad presented the award. Meanwhile, he released the monthly magazine of Rotary Club on the same occasion.
Chairman of the Vandana Awards Committee Rtn Dr. B Devadas Pai informed about the annual Vandana award and congratulated the awardees.
After receiving the award, Salu Marada Thimmakka narrated her journey of life. Meanwhile, she revealed her dream of constructing a gynaecology hospital.
Swami Jithakamananda Maharaj, who received the award on behalf of Ramakrishna Mission, lauded the social service by Rotary Club. Meanwhile, he dedicated the award to those who extended their cooperation to the Swacch Bharat campaign of Ramakrishna Mission.
Rotary Club of Mangaluru Central President Santhosh Shet presided over the programme. Rotary Club Secretary Joel Lobo, President-elect Dr. Jayaprakash Poonja, Rotaract Club District representative Ganesh among others were present. Rotaract Club Secretary Sheldon Crasta proposed a vote of thanks.
