Mangaluru: Alleging that the union government has been misusing the department of Income Tax (IT) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) to target the Congress leaders, Dakshina Kannada district Youth Congress president Mithun Rai on Friday, August 30 said that money laundering cases were mere pretexts.
He was addressing the protesters during a dharna organised in front of district Congress office to condemn the move of the ED to oppose DKShi’s plea seeking protection from arrest. “The union government has been resorting to vendetta politics and targeting Congress leaders for no reason. Though some BJP leaders are engaged in illegal activities, causing huge loss for national exchequer, no agencies are laying hands on them,” he said.
Mithun Rai further said that though BJP leader Janardhana Reddy had spent over Rs 500 crore on his daughter’s marriage, the IT or ED has not taken it seriously. Meanwhile, Mithun cautioned of intensifying the protest if the union government continues to misuse the government departments in this way. “If DK Shivakumar or any other Congress leaders are arrested in money laundering case, the members of DK district youth Congress are ready to launch ‘Jail Bharo’ movement also,” he said.
Hundreds of protesters shouted slogans in favour of Shivakumar and against union government and ED officials, holding party flags in their hands.
