Two children die of severe fever, mother infected, district health dept probing

Mangaluru: Two children from neighbouring state Kerala, who were under treatment in a private hospital for severe fever, died here on by Wednesday, July 24.

The deceased are Sidratul Muntaha (8) and 6-month-old Shinaj. Both were born to Siddique and Nisha couple, residents of Kanyapadi, Badiyadka town, Kasargod.

As the children were suffering from severe fever from the past one week, they were treated in a private hospital of the city. Sidratul who was suffering from pneumonia died on Tuesday, July 23 night. Shinaj on the other hand, died yesterday morning.

Meanwhile, the deceased family has informed that the mother Nisha too is now suffering from severe fever and admitted in the same hospital.

The district health department officials have taken cognisance of this issue and begun probing into the death of the children. The reason for the severe fever and deaths has not been identified yet, they said.

Kerala Health Minister K K Shailaja has said that their district health officers too were investigating into the matter.
