Mangaluru: Though the Thokkottu flyover is almost complete, people need to wait for few more days to travel on it. The opening of this flyover has yet again been postponed owing to the transfer of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials.
Few days ago, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel had announced that the work on flyover was almost complete and that it would open for traffic on June 10. But, the inauguration did not take place as announced. According to sources, NHAI project director and project engineer have been transferred thus, causing a delay in the opening of the flyover.
Before opening the flyover, the NHAI authorities have to ensure safe passage for vehicles moving towards Ullal from Mangaluru as the Ullal Cross is located just after the down-ramp. While the work on the flyover is almost complete, the one on U-turn is pending. For the smooth movement of vehicles towards Mangaluru from Konaje Mudipu, the service roads too need to be restored.
Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister U T Khader informed that a meeting with NHAI officials would be held on June 14, where the inauguration date will be finalised.
