Mangaluru: A delegation of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) met the family members of the two victims of Mangaluru police firing on Saturday and handed over the cheque of Rs five lakh each to them.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee had announced the ex-gratia couple of days ago.
Former railway minister Dinesh Dwivedi of Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Rajya Sabha MP MD Nadimul Haque handed over the cheque to the family members of the victims and expressed their solidarity.
Dwivedi said that it was an unfortunate incident and also added that while protests are being held across the country, such a killing was witnessed only in Mangaluru.
“Two lives have been lost. The mothers have lost their children and the country has lost two young men. No compensation can bring back what has been lost. It is only a sign of unity and an effort to let the families know that we are with them,” he said adding that the kin of the victims have clearly said that they do not want compensation, but their fight is for justice.
On December 19, the protest against CAA turned violent and the police opened fire to control the raging mob. This led to death of two youth from Mangaluru.
