Vittal: Six-year-old Sharanya is to undergo a heart surgery at Jayadeva Hospital in Bangalore on May 13, while her parents are in distress as they are unable to pool enough fund for the purpose.
Sharanya is the second child of Narayana and Sujatha residing at Mujoor in Manila village, the first being a male child. Hailing from Banputadka near Ukkinadka, the family shifted to Mujoor after selling the land.
Sharanya is studying in first standard in Aided Higher Primary School in Manila. She caught fever two years ago and no medicine could cure it. Suspecting a heart problem, the doctors advised to have a scan done. The report suggested an operation.
Upon knowing their poor financial condition, Kannadaguli Gopala Bhat who was a lecturer in Kinnigoli took them to Sri Satya Sai Super Speciality Hospital, White Field in Bangalore. Considering the backlog of surgeries, they were advised to take the patient to Jayadeva Hospital in Bangalore. An angiogram at Jayadeva Hospital confirmed the surgery. As the child is born in Kerala it is also necessary to check if the child is endosulfan-affected.
The angiogram was carried out free-of-cost under the Suvarna Arogya Chaitanya programme as the patient is a student. However, the programme does not cover the entire cost of the surgery. As their land records are not proper and they do not have a ration card, getting loans has become cumbersome. Hence the poor family is looking forward to donations from the kind-hearted people.
