Thieves dressed as cops loot elderly in Udupi, Mangaluru

Mangaluru: Two motorcycle-borne youth looted gold ornaments and cash from an elderly person after approaching the elderly in the guise of CBI police, on Tuesday, December 25.

Sources from police department informed that an elderly person Bhagavan (70) was walking near BEM School, Carstreet on Tuesday at around 11.45 am. Meanwhile, two motorcycle-borne duo deposed before Bhagavan (70) and introduced themselves as CBI police. They also informed Bhagavan that there is an active robbery gang in the city and asked Bhagavan to be very careful. They then insisted Bhagavan to remove his ring, chain, wrist watch, mobile phone among others and put it in a kerchief. When Bhagavan did the same, the duo helped Bhagavan pack his ornaments, handed over to the pack to him and left the place.

However, Bhagavan grew suspicious about the whole episode, but by the time he opened the kerchief, it was too late. The duo had fled with his ornaments costing about Rs 70,000 right under his nose.

A similar incident has been reported from Udupi as well on Tuesday at around 9.30 am. On noticing this, Udupi police informed Mangaluru police. Following this, Mangaluru police have alerted general public about the gangs that have been operating in the coastal belt.
