Mangaluru: The Vessel Tug Alliance belonging to a company called m/s Underwater services Company Ltd.  was reported as under distress on Saturday May 15. This company assists MRPL (Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd) under a contract to facilitate SPM (Single Point Mooring) operations whenever our Crude cargo comes there through Ships.

According to a media release from MRPL, on Friday May 14, it had performed similar duty to unload cargo from one such ship and was supposed to return by the end of the day.

However, it started to move towards port after due clearance on Saturday and underwent distress upon approaching port facilities. There were 8 men on board and at the time of this press note, while three have survived by reaching shore, 2 of them have deceased and their bodies have been recovered by the authorities. Remaining three are missing.

Further updates on the matter has not been posted by the team.

The release stated that the other vessel Coramandel, which has reportedly come under distress doesn’t belong to MRPL or it doesn’t have any contract with them.
