Mangaluru: The Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management will be hosting its first TEDx event, TEDxSCEM, on Sunday, July 28 from 8 AM to 6 PM at the Sahyadri campus. TED is a global community focused on meaningful change through the power of ideas.
TEDxSCEM 2019 has an account of eight inspirational speakers from various domains and four extravagant cultural performances. The various domains include technical, medical, innovation, defence, agriculture, social, motivational and others.
One of the speakers is Siddharth Rajhans, a Harvard educated first generation entrepreneur. Currently, a Principal Policy Officer working on Sustainable Development Goals format of the United Nations). Swastik Padma, a participant at the International Level Science Fair, 2018 with an innovative project and honoured by naming a minor planet after him, will also speak. He was also bestowed with the National Child Award, India.
Dhanya Ravi, born with brittle bone disease and suffering over 300 fractures since birth, will share her experiences. She is also known as the ‘Glass Woman’. She also advocates for early diagnosis of genetic and rare diseases through public talks.
Another in the league is Kavitha Mishra, a Computer Science graduate, currently working in the agriculture sector. She promotes sustainable farming to help farmers earn enough even after retirement.
Swami Ekagamyanakada, a monk of the Ramakrishna Order and instrumental in the success of Swacch Mangaluru for Swacch Bharat Abhiyan and many other projects headed by the organisation, is one of the distinguished speakers.
Brigadier I N Rai, who took part in the historic 1971 Indo-Pak War and was involved in operations against Naga Guerillas, operations in Sri Lanka as part of IPKF and commanded the Mountain Brigade in East Sikkim, Dr. Rohan Chandragatti, Senior Consultant Surgical Oncologist at Mangalore Institute of Oncology and specialized in minimally invasive and organ sparing therapies, Ankith Kumar, Behavioral Scientist, Psycho-Social counsellor, Life Skills coach and Personality Development trainer, certified hypnotist, Yoga therapist and panic healer, are the rest of the speakers.
Cultural performances will be staged by Karishma Arora, (All India CBSE Humanities Topper, winner of Times Women’s Achievers Award and Late Shri Lakshman Singh Kothari Memorial Award), Kathak and Yakshagana artiste Adarsh Pakkala (winner of Yaksha Prathibe, Yaksha Sindhu and YakshaKirita awards), Team Artbeats (runners-up of Mangalore’s Got Talent Season One, comprising a group of flutist, guitarist, cajonist and speed painter) and Team Propaganda (A Bolly-Hop dance crew based in Mangalore).
