Team from Centre takes stock of rain damage in district

Mangaluru: Inorder to make a comprehensive report of the destruction caused by the heavy rains and floods, a team of senior officials was sent by the central government to visit the Mangaluru, Bantwal, Puttur and Sullia areas.

Bharatendu Kumar Singh, Deputy Secretary of the Union Finance ministry, Manik Chandra Pandith, Deputy Secretary of the Rural Development Ministry and Roads and Highways department regional official Sadananda Babu were some of the officials from the central team who were part of the team.

Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil and the officials from various departments gave the team from the Centre a detailed information regarding the damage to the district. The team then inspected the broken retaining wall of the Thumbay dam as well as the damaged Mularpatna bridge and the alternate arrangements made to facilitate transport.

The team visited areca plantations in Vitlapadnooru village and Kaniyoor, took stock of the damage to Kallaje School Road in Indabettu Gram Panchayat, checked the damage to the Bengaluru-Mangaluru Highway in the Shiradi Ghats and then went to check the situation at Sakleshpur.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar, Puttur sub-division officer Krishnamurthy, agricultural department officials, PWD officials and horticultural department officials were also present during the inspection.
