Mangaluru: Pressing for finding solutions to the problems faced by the teaching fraternity, MLC Boje Gowda said that quality education can be ensured only when the teachers are free from stress and mental agony.

He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating an educational conference organised by Dakshina Kannada district High School Headmasters’ and Pre-university College Principals’ Association at the auditorium of Milagres Pre-University College.

He said, “I have received several complaints from the teaching fraternity with regard to delay in payment, increasing work load, unnecessary transfers among others. The unscientific decisions taken by the IAS officials cause huge problems to the teachers. Hence, before making any decision, it is better to take the opinion of experts from teaching fraternity,” he said.

Boje Gowda condemned the decision of forming three zones like A, B and C in schools and colleges. “The schools which come under `A` zone need to be located inside the city area and those educational institutions which are located in rural areas should come under `C` zone. However, some schools in the `A` zone are away from the city area. Though I am not against transferring process of the government, transferring teachers from `A`zone to `C` zone is quite unscientific“, he said and added that he has already consulted minister and resource persons in education and all problems would be sorted out within this month.

Prior to the inauguration of the programme, Headmasters’ Association president Dr. Ismail N shed light upon various problems of teachers. “Though teachers had a hope of receiving a revised salary as per the recommendations of 6th Pay Commission, they did not get the revised salary from the month of April. Apart from that, there is a delay in crediting the salary every month. Hence, proper measures should be taken immediately,” he urged.

Prof. Mahabaleshwar Rao, coordinating officer of TMA Pai B.Ed College Udupi Prof delivered a key-note address and threw light upon the modern education system. Convener of Milagres Education Institutions Fr Valerian D’Souza blessed the occasion. Meanwhile, retired teachers, Ph.D and M.Phil holders, teachers who secured state and national awards, special children and other talented students who excelled in education, sports and extra-curricular activities were felicitated on the same occasion.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction Prof Y Shivaramaiah presided over the programme. P.U Education Deputy Director Prof Nagarajappa M, Milagres Pre-University College Principal John Pais, Karnataka State Highschool Headmasters’ Association general secretary Prof Mahabaleshwar Rao, Information Department Assistant Director B A Khader Shah among others were present.
