Mangaluru: Former minister B Ramanath Rai met Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh on Tuesday and sought strict action against those who are mining sand illegally.
Rai informed that a large amount of sand has been dumped at the Sajipa village in the Bantwal taluk, which was mined illegally. Though the district administration has permitted sand mining in selected areas, they are violating the permit’s guidelines and using large machines to do the work, he said.
He also informed that the Department of Mines and Geology, Revenue and Police department have not taken action against the illegal sand miners. The concerned officials should be alert in this regard, he urged.
Later, Rai handed over a memorandum to the DC.
