Mangaluru: State’s cultural capital, Mysuru and Mangaluru city have been adjudged as the Cleanest City in the country and best city in solid waste management respectively, among the cities with less than 10 lakh population in the Swaccha Sarvekshana 2018 results report of the Union government.
The report, which has been prepared after reviewing the cleanliness and sanitation of various cities and towns of the country was released by the Union Housing Minister Haradeep Singh Puri here on Wednesday. Mysuru’s Hunasoor has been adjudged as the best town in waste management.
At the National-level, Indore, Bhopal, and Chandigarh are considered as the first three cleanest cities. Indore and Bhopal have retained their places consecutively for the second year. Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Chattisgarh states achieved their best in the implementation of the Swacchata Andolan, the Puri said.
Last year the survey was conducted in only 430 cities, but this time it was extended to 4,200 cities and towns across the town. Among the city corporations, New Delhi stood first. Vijayawada has got the place among the cities which have more than 10 lakh population. Public opinion also played a major role during the survey, said the minister.
