Moodabidri: The police, on Tuesday, August 21, arrested three accused including the brother of the murdered Sudarshan Jain. Sudarshan had been murdered on the night of August 11 at Hosabettu.

The arrested have been identified as Hosabettu resident and the brother of the victim, Sudhir Jain (26), Hokkadigoli resident Sandeep Shetty (29) and Venur Arambodi resident Baalaraj (23). A local court remanded all the accused to police custody until August 27.

On the night of the murder, Sudarshan Jain, who was employed in a garment shop, was on his way home with his brother Sudhir on a motorbike. Claiming that the bike had broken down, Sudhir, who was riding the vehicle, stopped it a little away from their home and called up his friend for help. His friends who arrived in a car took the victim to a secluded place and murdered him by stabbing him with a knife and choking ropes, said police sources.

The accused then disposed of the dead body by throwing it into the waters of Phalguni river. The dead body was recovered from Maravoor Dam on August 17.

Police sources said that sharing the money obtained from selling a property was the main motive behind the murder. Both brothers had received Rs 6 Lakh each from selling an ancestral property. Sudhir, who was enraged that his brother had refused to give money from his share, hatched a murder plan using his friends.

One of the accused, Sandeep, is employed as an AC mechanic at the shop owned by Sudhir at Siddakatte.
