Kasargod: The police in Kasargod confiscated two Bullet bikes affixed with fake registration numbers on Monday, July 16. According to preliminary investigations, the bikes were reportedly stolen from Bantwal in Dakshina Kannada district.
A team led by Circle Inspector of Kasargod city Abdul Rahim was on a routine check at the Kasargod Railway station premises. On noticing the police, the riders of the two bikes parked the vehicles and fled from the scene, said sources.
When the police called up the owner based on the registration number details, he informed them that his bikes were parked at his home. On further inquiry, it was found that the bikes confiscated by the police had fake numbers on them. A closer look at the engraved engine numbers revealed that they were stolen from Bantwal.
Sources said that the police had received intelligence that an inter-state gang of robbers was active int he district. The modus operandi of the gang is to change the registration numbers and sell the stolen automobiles to gullible customers in the open market. Police have intensified their inquiry after the latest findings.
