Kasargod: The act of statue vandalism, which began on Monday with miscreants bulldozing Lenin’s statue in Tripura, has now reached Kerala, another communist fort, where a statue of Mahatma Gandhi was targeted by an unidentified person.

According to eyewitnesses a man, wearing a brown shirt and saffron coloured lungi, was spotted attempting to deface the statue located near Taliparamba taluk office in Kannur district. The glasses and garland were removed from the statue and an attempt was made to deface the statue by hitting it with a hard object.

One of the passers-by is said to have taken a picture of the man, who is yet to be identified with his mobile phone. However his face is not clearly visible as the picture has been taken from a distance.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Modi on Wednesday issued an advisory to states asking them to act sternly against anyone found vandalising statues.
