Mangaluru: A J Hospital conducted a demonstration of its recently-acquired Robotic System on Friday, December 27. This new equipment is said to be the “Da Vinci Fourth Generation Robot Assisted Surgical System” and only four of them are available in India presently.
The Robot Assisted Surgical System generally helps the surgeon improve the quality of the surgery by magnification which, in turn, helps conduct the surgery with precision and thus, significantly improves the surgical outcome. However, the doctors at the demonstration clarified that in no way does the sophisticated machinery replace the surgeon himself. Instead, it’s role is purely that of providing assistance and enhancing surgical precision.
The hospital doctors also informed that the robotic system can be used in a wide variety of surgeries including Laparoscopy, Urology, Gynaecology, Surgical Gastroenterology, Bariatric Surgery, Oncology, and General Surgery.
Outlining the features of the Da Vinci Robotic System, doctors also said that the sophisticated apparatus can lead to several benefits such as shorter hospitalization, reduced pain and discomfort, faster recovery time, smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, minimal scarring, and of course greater precision.
