Mangaluru: The Kannada and Culture Department of the state government, on Tuesday, December 10, sanctioned Rs 5 crores towards the implementation of Konkani Bhavan, of which Rs 3 crores has been sanctioned with immediate effect.
In a press note, president of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Dr Jagadish Pai said, “The past presidents of the academy had strived hard to get funds to build a Konkani Bhavan. This was also brought to my notice as soon as I assumed office. I had even met state Kannada and Culture Minister C T Ravi in Bengaluru for this demand. Documents of the meeting with the Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner were produced before him. As a result, on Tuesday, December 10, he has sanctioned Rs 5 crores, from which Rs 3 crores were sanctioned immediately towards the bhavan project.”
“At this juncture, I thank Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and minister C T Ravi for acknowledging the request. District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary and Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath are already in search of land to construct the Konkani Bhavan. I’m thankful to them as well. I feel that this is the biggest gift for the Konkani community. Lastly, I would like to thank all those who put in their heart and soul to get this done. I hope the bhavan comes up soon.”
Similarly, the government has released Rs 3 crores for a Beary Bhavan.
Chairman of the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, Rahim Uchchil said that Rs 3 crores was sanctioned in the current financial year and that 25 cents of land in Neermarga was already allotted for the Beary Bhavan.
He said that the foundation stone laying ceremony take place soon, in the presence of Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.
He thanked parliamentarian and BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel and minister C T Ravi for getting the funds released.
