Mangaluru: St Aloysius Pre University College, Mangaluru is organising a three-day long educational simulation ‘SAMPUN’, based on the working model of the United Nations, from November 1.
St Aloysius Pre- University College principal Rev Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ told mediapersons here on Saturday, October 19, that the purpose of this programme is to foster diplomatic zeal among the students to represent their views on a platform that mimics the activities of the United Nations Organisation (UNO). It is a diplomatic competition that evokes interest among the students to discuss and role play as the delegates of the different nations. The programme intends to develop debating skills and enable the students to voice their opinion effectively.
The opening ceremony will be held on November 1 at the Loyola Hall and will be graced by PAR ECO Solutions founder Rakshith Shetty. The keynote speaker will be the co-founder of Lessismore.in Meghan D’Souza. The valedictory programme will be held on November 3 and will be presided over by former Lokayukta Justice N Santhosh Hegde. Over 400 participants from the entire country are expected to participate in this programme, he informed.
Informing about the cash prizes and certificates for those who excel in the competition, Fr Clifford said, “The outstanding delegates from each committee will be awarded on the basis of their performance with the best delegate, high commendation and special mention as first, second and third respectively. The winners will be given certificates and cash prizes of Rs 3,500, Rs 2,500 and Rs 1,500 respectively, along with participation certificates for all.”
Finance officer of the college Vinod Paul, English Professor Maxin D’Silva, student coordinator Sanjith Rodrigues and others were present.
