Mangaluru: Shri Pathanjali Yoga Shikshana Samiti (R), Karnataka held the 7th international Yoga day virtually on Monday June 21 at 7 a.m. Prof. M.B Puranik, Chairman, Sharada Vidyalaya S.K.D.B. Campus, Mangalore Sharada Institute, Chikmagalur MLA and National General Secretary of BJP C.T Ravi, Union Minister of Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Prahalad Joshi were the guests present for the event.

Speaking on the occasion Chairman Sharada Vidyalaya and social worker Prof. M.B. Puranik, said that, “Yoga and Yogasana is one of the treasures of Sanathana Dharma. He appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts in getting yoga its rightful recognition nationally and internationally. He also lauded Shri Pathanjali Yoga Shikshana Samiti’s effort to spread Yoga in India and world.”

MLA and National General Secretary C.T Ravi said that, “India is a country with large hearted people though majority are poor. We have a rich culture and our culture has reached far and wide today with more than 170 countries holding International Yoga Day.”

As a guest at the event, Prahalad Joshi mentioned that Yoga has always been our lifestyle. “However, we forgot our rich heritage and stoppes practicing the same till very recently. With marking of International Yoga Day, it is now known that, 17 percent practice yoga everyday worldwide which was earlier at 9 percent. The westerners acknowledge that Yoga has brought about positive lifestyle changes. Also, the Yeomen service of the organisation such as SPYSS to the field of yoga and thus overall well-being should be appreciated.”

Speaking further Prahlad affirmed that the world is in dilemma during this Covid pandemic and it is now the people of the world are understanding that Yoga and Yogasana are solutions to our physical and mental well-being. He explained that there is a difference between Yoga and Yogasana. Yoga talks about 196 sutras and only 3 talk about asana, he said.

“Many researchers in the recent past have also promoted the fact that practicing of Yoga and Yogasana helps strengthen lungs. Yoga is the biggest gift of India to the world. Yoga has only positive effect and no negative or side effect which is the biggest advantage of Yoga. In recent year, we see many westerners adopting Indian culture for improvement of overall mental health. Yoga is not a workout but a work in which will keep our heart and thoughts clean. It will also help in fighting obesity,” he added.
