Mangaluru: Hundreds of special schools across the city assembled at Canara High School (Main) Grounds in Dongarakeri on Sunday, January 12, to participate in ‘Vishishtarigagi Vishishta Mela – 2020’ organised by ‘Asha Jyothi’, a unit of Seva Bharathi. The objective of the programme was to bring equality among the specially-abled and others.

While some engaged in amusing activities, others put their best foot forward in competitions that entailed throwing rings around eatables, hitting empty boxes with balls, etc. There were no boundaries for their fun as all the children laughed their hearts out.

The programme was inaugurated by Corporation Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) P V Bharathi. She said, “Every citizen of our country has a responsibility to support special children and identify their inner talents. Arunima Sinha, the world’s first female amputee to climb Mount Everest, should be a role model for special children as she has achieved success despite her disability.”

A variety of games and events for specially-abled students were held at the programme. Free lunch, snacks, and beverages were served to all. Along with the special children, their caretakers were also allowed to participate in a few fun-filled activities.

Magician Munawar entertained the special children with his unique magic show. Asha Jyothi President Dr Muralidhar Naik spoke about the various facilities being provided by the government towards specially-abled children. Meanwhile, special students Nithyananda Karkala, Gururaj Belthangady, and Pradeep Kumar were felicitated for securing first, second, and third rank in BSW respectively.

MESCOM Managing Director Snehal R, Sevabharati Mangaluru unit President Sumathi V Shenoy, Secretary S Ravinath Kudva, Treasurer Vishwanath Pai, and others were present.
