Mangaluru: While the floods in the state are tearing families apart, people are finding ways to unite and come together to make it through the tough times, disregarding all their differences.

During the recent heavy downpour, a house in Inoli of the Pavoor village was severely damaged, rendering it uninhabitable. This forced its occupants, Jayanth and his family, to move to a safer location, but unfortunately, they were unable to find shelter and were left homeless.

Jayanth is a daily wager and his wife is Sathyavathi is a beedi roller. Their children Sanjana and Vanashika are in the seventh and second standard, respectively.

On finding out about the family’s situation, the Samastha Kerala Sunni Students Federation (SKSSF) decided to help them out and invited them to stay at their office.

Mohammed, honorary president of the SKSSF, Mohammed Shareef, the president, T H Abbas, convener and Pavoor Gram Panchayat president M T Firoz asked Jayanth and his family to move into the SKSSF’s office in Inoli till things settle down.

Jayanth and his family were initially taken aback by the invitation of the SKSSF leaders, however, they accepted and moved into the office.

The area from where this heartwarming story emerged, has been known for incidents of communal disharmony, bringing an unfavourable name to the district. This incident, however, proves that communal harmony still exists here.
