SJEC holds 14th Graduation Ceremony for BE, M Tech, and MBA grads

Mangaluru: St Joseph Engineering College’s (SJEC) 14th Graduation Ceremony was held at the Open Air Stage in the campus on November 9.

The ceremony witnessed the awarding of Graduation Certificates by the institution to the Class of 2019 comprising 562 Undergraduates (BE) and 95 Postgraduates (MBA, MCA, and MTech).

Renault Nissan Technology & Business Centre India Senior Manager (Body Engineering) Thomas Mathew was the chief guest of the event and presented the degree certificates to the graduates.

Mangalore Diocese Bishop and SJEC President Dr Peter Paul Saldanha presided over the ceremony. SJEC Director Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza welcomed the gathering and Associate Professor (Mechanical Engineering Department) Dr Binu KG introduced the chief guest.

In his address, Thomas Mathew called upon the graduates to respect the profession they get into and learn to adapt to changes.

He mentioned the 5S’s in the Automotive Industry, which are Smart, Safe, Sustainable, Smooth and Serviceable. He urged the graduands to bring these
5S’s into their life and practice them rigorously. Mathew further remarked that each individual has to dream big and strive hard to achieve them. He concluded by saying that one has to be humble, follow ethics, and have a never-give-up attitude.

SJEC Principal Dr Rio D’Souza administered the graduation oath. Computer Science and Engineering graduate Royden Rego and Business Administration graduate Reena Sequeira were the valedictorians of the Class of 2019. They delivered the valedictorian address.

Scholastic achievers and sports achievers were recognized and awarded by Dr Peter Paul Saldanha.

Delivering the Presidential address, the Bishop remarked that the graduates were the pride and joy of the college. He congratulated the graduates and asked them to learn skills that can make them interdependent at their workplaces. He said humans are more important than machines and called upon the graduates to inculcate human values.

SJEC Assistant Directors Fr Rohith D’Costa and Fr Alwyn Richard D’Souza, HR Manager Rakesh Lobo, HOD of Physics Dr. Vincent Crasta, SJEC Alumni Association Chairperson Evita Coelho, and others were present.

Programme convener Vinish P delivered the vote of thanks.
