Mangaluru: Sullia MLA S Angara, who has been elected six consecutive terms from the Sullia Assembly constituency, expressed his displeasure at having been denied a ministerial berth in Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa’s cabinet.

It can be noted that Angara is a very senior leader in the BJP and was elected MLA six times from the Sullia constituency, the only reserved constituency of the Dakshina Kannada district. Although many were expecting him to be given a ministerial berth, he was left out of the list along with the other leaders from the DK district.

When he was elected as MLA for the fifth time, he was the only BJP MLA from the DK district. As the BJP had failed to attain the magic number in the Assembly, the Congress formed the government and Siddaramaiah became the Chief Minister.

During the 2018 election, Angara was elected once again and it was his sixth win against the Congress. However, as the BJP again failed to attain the magic number, the Congress and JD(S) allied together and formed a coalition government in the state. As the misunderstanding between the coalition partners deepened, H D Kumaraswamy was forced to tender his resignation as the CM and the BJP got a second shot at forming the government.

When Yediyurappa assumed charge as Chief Minister recently, many people thought that Angara would definitely become a minister this time. But when the first list of ministers was released on Tuesday, Angara’s name was nowhere to be seen. The people of the Dakshina Kannada district were enraged and many of them expressed their anger on social media, asking how many times should one win an election to become a minister?

Speaking to newsksarnataka.com Angara expressed his displeasure at being denied a ministerial berth. “When I went through the list, my expectations were proven wrong. The people of the DK district have been expressing their anger through social media as they are also hurt by this,” he said. He added that he would try to pass on his and his followers’ opinion to the party’s top leadership so that his name will appear at least in the second list.
