Shops running business during lockdown period to lose permit: MCC Commissioner

Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner Shanady Ajith Kumar Hegde has issued a stern warning to shopkeepers, stating that their permit will be cancelled if they resort to running their business during the lockdown period.

The warning is applicable even to the shops selling essential commodities.

The Municipal Commissioner said that shops cannot be kept open when section 144 is in place and any vendor/ shopkeeper seen opening the shops will be punished.

The MCC Commissioner and other officials launched a raid at Central market and forced shopkeepers to shut their shops.

They also sought cooperation of shops and other commercial establishment to stop spreading of the Coronavirus by adhering to the lockdown guidlines.

On Wednesday, several shops were opened in the city, even after the PM announced complete lockdown in the country. Many people were seen casually moving on the street, signaling that they have still not taken the lockdown seriously.
