Mangaluru: The celebration of ‘Maha Shivarathri Mahotsava’ has already begun in Kudroli Gokarnanatha Kshethra and the key rituals of Shivarathri will be held on February 21.
Former union minister and temple renovation committee leader B Janardhana Poojary has urged the devotees to attend this religious ritual in large numbers.
“Though only few temples have been called golden temples including Gurdwara located in the city of Amritsar, Punjab, there was no such temples in South India. In order to resemble it, efforts have been made to convert Kudroli temple into Golden temple. Though the temple has been painted in golden colour, during the last Navarathri fest, the Hanuman shrine, which is located in the premises of the temple also now painted with gold colour. Sanctum Sanctorum’s Kalasha also replaced with golden Kalasha now,” he said.
Informing about the various religious rituals pertaining to Shivarathri Mahotsav, temple committee treasurer Padmaraj R informed that religious rituals have already started at the temple on February 16. The other rituals including Maharudrahoma, Maharudrabhisheka, Shathasiyalabhisheka, rathotsava, Vishnubali Utsava. Shivabali, Mahashivaratri Jagarane Bali, Kattepooje, Keredeepa, Mantapapooje, Bhootabali, Balipooje, Avabhrithasnana and Dhwajvarohana will be held at the temple during the festival. Dhwajavarahana ritual will be held on February 23.
Temple committee treasurer H S Sairam, secretary Madhava Suvarna, temple trustees Ravishankar Mijar, Mahesh Chandra and members like Shekhar Poojary, B G Suvarna, Mohan Shetty, Karunakar Shetty, Anusooya among others were present.
