Mangaluru: Shiradi ghat, that was closed on Friday due to multiple landslides caused by heavy rainfall in the ghat region, was opened for the traffic of all kinds from Monday, August 12.
However, as a big portion of land toward the valley area has been completely washed away due to floods, Charmady Ghat remains shut for traffic for another few days. Sources in the district administration said that it may require at least a week to put the road in order to allow traffic. During the night, traffic towards Bengaluru depends on Sampaje Ghat that connects Madikeri and Mysuru.
As Shiradi Ghat, that connects the coast to the state capital was opened for traffic on Monday, the passengers heaved a sigh of relief. The water level in rivers of the region has started receding due to reduced rainfall in the Malnad and coastal regions.
