Mangaluru: The district administrations of both Dakshina Kannada and Hassan have decided to allow all vehicles on the Shirady Ghat stretch which connects Bengaluru and Mangaluru, from Thursday, November 15.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil informed the media that all vehicles including heavy vehicles like trucks, lorries and tankers will be allowed on Shirady Ghat stretch from Thursday 6 AM. Earlier, he had informed that though the Dakshina Kannada district administration was ready to allow all types of vehicles, there are some problems in Hassan area, which prevented the local administration from allowing all types of vehicles. But, after the discussion with the district administration of Hassan, now it is decided to allow all vehicles to ply on the stretch.
The Shirady Ghat was closed for all kinds of vehicles from August following massive landslides at different locations owing to heavy rains. After the landslides were cleared, the stretch was opened for the movement of light motor vehicles like cars, jeep, two-wheelers and maxi cabs from September 5. However, there was objection for the multi-axle buses to ply on the stretch. After inspecting the stretch, it was decided to allow multi-axle buses also to ply on the stretch from October 3. However, there was a ban on plying of commercial vehicles like trucks, lorries and tankers. Now both the district administrations have come to a consensus on the issue.
