Mangaluru: Police have arrested an accused for harrassing and threatening SFI leader Madhuri on social media.
Shri Hari alias Harish Devadiga alias Kakkinje Harish, a resident of Thotattady village in Kakkinje in Belthangady was arrested near Pumpwell on Saturday, January 13 by the Mangaluru South police.
The police have seized his mobile phone used for the crime. He was produced before the court and has been sent to judicial custody. Police are on hunt for few more accused in the case.
It may be recalled that Madhuri, daughter of Bharathi, a Bolar resident came under severe attack on social media when some suspected right wing activists alleged her of having intense relationship with a Muslim youth. They selectively used her college study tour selfie uploaded on FB last year to defame her. SFI activists named Humza, Suhas and Ganesh Bolar too were part of that study tour undertaken by Madhuri last year, where a group selfie was taken during the travel.
The image was shared on social media accusing a youth named Humza of having close relationship with Hindu girls and cautioned fellow right wing activists to keep vigil on Humza’s movement, indirectly hinting at “Love Jihad.”
Disturbed by the development, Madhuri met Mangaluru City Police Commissioner T R Suresh at his office accompanied by her mother, who too is linked to the CPM-led Beedi Workers Union. Later, they lodged a complaint at the cyber crime cell. She cited the recent death of a girl from Mudigeri under mental duress and frequent “moral policing” attacks on innocents by the right wing activists in her petition. She had also requested the police to book men responsible for causing her mental harassment and attempting to defame her on social media.
