Mangaluru: The low lying areas in Doddikatta near Bajpe were flooded on Friday, June 22, due to the collapse of a retaining wall that had been constructed on the Phalguni river here.
Sources said that the SEZ authorities had built a water barrier next to the Phalguni river to prevent water from entering the low lying areas. Due to the incessant rainfall in the district, the wall collapsed on the morning of June 22 and water gushed into the Doddikatta area. In the deluge, houses and a temple suffered extensive damage. Water also rushed into a software company located in the area.
The level of water has receded after a few hours. The elected representative and officials from the district administration visited the spot and took stock of the damage caused by the incident.
