Mangaluru: “As the registration of birth and death is very essential to avail government facilities, the officials concerned should take all the appropriate measures to ensure 100 percent registration”, said Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Selvamani R on Wednesday, February 6.
After inaugurating a workshop on ‘ejanma’ software for the officials of local administration, Selvamani said that government facilities should be given only to the genuine beneficiaries. There are some guidelines which need to be followed while disbursing any government facilities, he added.
District Statistics Officer Dr. Uday Kumar Shetty informed that over 50,000 registrations of both births and deaths are done annually in DK district. “Of this, the registration of birth is around 33,000 and the death 17,000. In order to make this procedure easier, ‘ejanma’ software has been introduced. Usually, urban areas achieve 85 percent registrations in birth and death. But due to lack of proper information, the percentage of birth and death is only 15 percent,” he said.
“The software helps to get accuracy in the census. Besides that, it helps to properly implement some of the government programmes on public health, vaccination, control of epidemic diseases, family planning among others,” Uday Kumar added.
District Information Officer Rohini, District Assistant Officer Maruthi Prasad among others were present .
