Mangaluru: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) candidate Ilyas Mohammed Thumbay filed his nomination with District Election Officer Sasikanth Senthil on Monday, March 25.
Leaders Athaulla Jokatte, Haneef Khan Kodaje and Riaz Farangepete accompanied him.
Prior to filing the nomination, SDPI organised a huge rally from Hampankatta Circle to DC’s office wherein hundreds of party workers participated.
SDPI had announced its candidate before the national parties Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress. However, Ilyas chose to file his nomination after BJP candidate Nalin Kumar Kateel and coalition candidate Mithun Rai today.
During the recent conference held at Nehru Maidan, SDPI, citing that there was no difference between communal party BJP and secular parties Congress and Janata Dal (S), had clarified that they it not support other parties and contest the election to keep communal parties away from assuming power.
Meanwhile, an independent candidate Maxim Pinto another candidate Ismail Shafi K (SDPI) also filed their nomination today. With this, five candidates filed their nomination on Monday and the total number of candidates in the fray increased to eight. The last date for filing nomination is on Tuesday, March 26.
