Mangaluru: The Hindu Janajagruti Samithi in association with other like-minded organisations staged a protest against the entry of women of all ages into the Sabarimala temple and urged the government to bring an ordinance to restore the pre-judgment situation on the lines of what Tamil Nadu did with ‘Jallikattu.’

The protest meeting was organised in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday, October 22. Addressing the protesters, Hindu Janajagruti Samiti District Coordinator Chandra Mogera said, “Due to the verdict of the Supreme Court, the religious sentiments of Hindus were hurt. Before taking any decision with regard to the practices of Hindus, it is better to take the opinions of religious leaders. However, no such measures were taken prior to issuing the verdict. Hence, an ordinance should be made by the Kerala government to maintain status-quo”, he said.

The Managing Trustee of Kolya Mookambika Temple, Madhusudhan Ayyar said, “All Ayyappa devotees should unite in order to protect Sabarimala temple. Though the Kerala state is ruled by the communist government, Hindus should unite and urge to file review the petition”, he said.

Meanwhile, protesters alleged that the coalition government of Karnataka had been supporting the crime accused. Alleging that most of the accused involved in the murder of Hindu activists belong to Popular Front of India (PFI), it should be banned, they urged.

After the protest meeting, a memorandum addressed to the Governor of the state was handed over to the deputy commissioner of the district. Leaders  Sathish Urwa, Shashidhar Baliga, B V Jayaram, Vasanth Shetty Deralakatte, Ramesh Sharavu, Anand Shetty, Veerappa, Nithyananda and Geetha Shetty Adyar among others were present.
