Rotary Club donates clothes to 54 kids at Infant Jesus Orphanage

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru Central unit of Rotary Club donated clothes to the orphans at Infant Jesus Orphanage at Mary Hill on March 16.

Speaking at the press meet, Rotary Club-Mangalore Central Governor (District RI 3181) M M Suresh Chengappa said, “The Rotary Club is an international service oriented organisation working on six causes-promoting peace and conflict resolution, providing clean water and sanitation, fighting and prevention of disease, supporting education, saving mothers and children and growing local economies worldwide.”

“Rotary Club has 35,345 branches across 216 countries with 12 lakh volunteers. In the month of July, Rotary Club has planted more than 1 lakh saplings and sown seed balls in various places”, he said.

He also said that inorder to eradicate Polio from the entire world, Rotary had started the “End Polio” programme and a sum of USD 1.5 billion was spent annually on this. This year, Bill Gates, Co-chairman of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has joined hands with the Rotary towards this noble cause, and has announced a commitment of upto USD 1.5 billion to support the cause.

Rotary Club-Mangaluru Central President Raymond D’Cunha , Secretary Prakashchandra, Deputy Governor Naveen Kumar, former governor Dr. Devadas Rai and Zonal Lieutenant Anil Gonslaves were present during the press meet.
