Mangaluru: Roshni Nilaya in association with the Parivarthan Charitable Trust and Sahayog Forum will be jointly organising Transgender’s Day with a goal to create a better world for them, on March 22.
The programme will be held at Maria Paiva Couceiro Hall, Roshni Nilaya at 10 am where Kavitha Sanil, Mayor of Mangaluru City corporation and Bhushan G Borase will be the chief guests. The other chief guests include Shruthi N S, ACP South Sub Division, Dr. Sophia Fernandes, Principal, Roshni Nilaya, Dr. Lakshminarayan Bhat, Registrar, Roshni Nilaya.
The purpose of the programme is to bring about an attitudinal change in the mindset of social work students, government officials and the general public. It also aims for a meaningful interaction with the government officials to ensure a better understanding of their needs and to facilitate the welfare of transgender community.
At present transgender eke their living through begging and sex work due to which they have been discriminated, assaulted and threatened sometimes by their own senior members when they do not receive their share.
