Mangaluru: Two children breathed their last after being smothered under the debris of a retaining wall that collapsed on a house, at Shivanagara near Padil, on Sunday, September 8.
The deceased have been identified as Varshini (9) and Vedanth (7), children of Ramachandra and Rajani couple. According to the sources, a 20 feet retaining wall built at the rear side of the house collapsed on the house at around 8 pm, due to the incessant rain. As a result, Varshini and Vedanth remained trapped under the debris. Though the children were rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital, the doctors at the hospital declared them brought dead.
It is said that both Varshini and Vedanth were preparing for the exams, scheduled on Monday. As their parents were outside the house during the incident, they remained safe. Ramachandra is an employee in a private firm in the city and his wife Rajani is a daily wager. With this incident, the couple has lost both children.
