Reports confirm Kadaba woman’s death due to Dengue

Mangaluru: It is now official that a woman from Kadaba, Veena Nayak died due to Dengue fever with the district administration confirming that the laboratory reports were positive.

Dakshina Kannada district Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil told reporters here on Friday, July 19 that though an 8-year-old boy Krish and Shraddha K Shetty of Jeppu Market had died due to the suspected Dengue fever, it has not been confirmed yet.

Disclosing the statistics of reported Dengue cases in the district, Senthil said, “A total of 404 Dengue cases have been reported in Dakshina Kannada district so far, among which 253 cases are from Mangaluru Taluk alone. A total of 39 cases have been reported in Bantwal, 67 in Puttur, 27 in Beltangady and 23 cases in Sullia taluk.

“Three expert doctors from Bengaluru, Dr. Mohammed Shareef, Dr. Ravi and Dr. R G Prakash have already arrived in the district in order to examine the Dengue cases. In order to curb the disease, several precautionary measures like source reduction, fogging and awareness programmes are going on”, Senthil informed.

Senthil also advised the people not be panic but take precautionary measures. “People should avoid water stagnation in their premises and storing water for more than two days in buckets, empty vessels among others. As Dengue mosquitoes bite during the daytime, people should wear full clothes and apply neem or coconut oil on the body”, he added.
